Anyone who knows me can tell you that I like a challenge. Learning new things and seeing how things work interest me. In 2020 I was looking into learning something new, something to improve my skills but on another level.
After some research and checking references I chose to follow the WebAssistant training at Weblish. This practical training would teach me things I had been interested in for some time but never actually thought I would be able to do. I mean I had no graphic design background and no technical background so how could I build a website from scratch?
I can tell you that being 41, working almost full time, having 2 kids and starting a second business on the side still did not discourage me from enrolling. My second business was actually the test case so I started building around that. The training was intense - I cannot lie about that. I tracked my time (as that is just the way I am) and spent 119.25 hours during these 15 lessons. That's an average of 7.95 hours per lesson so roughly an extra 8 hours a week (which I somehow thought I had over? haha).
But the results are good - at least that is my opinion so I hope others feel the same way:
Of the various subjects offered I think the below mentioned are my favourite:
- WordPress website using Beaver Builder theme
- Webshop using WooCommerce
- Social Media Branding using Canva
- Organising webinars using WebinarGeek
I also thoroughly enjoyed looking into the various plugins and integrations. Everything is connected - well almost - because I love being efficient. I used different plugins for WooCommerce (autocomplete, menu cart, PDF invoices), connected it through the PSP Mollie to my bookkeeping system e-boekhouden and lastly My Parcel to send the packages.
So after this adventure I can now call myself a certified WebAssitant! I may not be able to (or want to) do all of the subjects offered but I have a great network of professionals who are willing and able to help you.
Conclusion: this old dog has learnt some new tricks
